Current Event: Confucian Engaged in Youth at Stockton Christian Church

Although most do not consider that Confucianism and Christianity can be merged, it can be seen in this video that they can exist harmoniously together.  I was at this church event a couple of weeks ago and felt that the actions I saw that day are full of Confucian virtues.

As shown in the video, the children are happily preparing the lunch of the entire congregation. They are practicing the concepts of "li" (propriety/ritual) and "yi" (the precept that guides the social relationship in a Chinese society). They are showing their respect for their elder and for the church community in their actions.  Secondly, the elders in the video are also practicing Confucian virtues: "li," "yi," "ren" (kindness or human heartedness).  The elders here assist in the preparation of the meal by helping to cut materials and cooking so that the children will not hurt themselves. Through this, they demonstrate their "li" in following the social order, their "yi" in taking responsibility for the younger members of the society, their "ren" by being concerned about the welfare of the children.
